In this webinar, our three speakers will discuss the case for listed private equity amid the prevailing wide discounts to NAV. While rising interest rates, muted global M&A activity and volatile public markets have caused investor concerns recently, the sector is benefiting from a secular trend of companies staying private for longer, as well as the increasing sector expertise and value-add provided to portfolio companies by top private equity managers.

Milosz Papst, Director of Content – Investment Trusts, Edison
Milosz joined the Edison team in August 2017. He has spent more than seven years at Crisil Research & Analytics as senior equity analyst in the EU chemicals and cleantech teams and was subsequently made an associate director overseeing several financial research teams. Prior to joining Crisil, Milosz was an equity research analyst at the Riedel Research Group responsible for ideas generation and coverage of companies listed in Poland on a cross-sector basis.

Alan Gauld, Senior Investment Director – Private Equity, abrdn
Alan is a Senior Investment Director in the abrdn Private Equity team. He is also the Lead Portfolio Manager of abrdn Private Equity Opportunities Trust (aPEOT).
From an investment perspective, Alan focuses on private equity buyout funds, co-investments and secondary investments. He is involved in all aspects of investing in these areas including sourcing, appraising and executing investments as well as portfolio monitoring. Alan has developed a strong network with several leading private equity houses across Europe.
He joined abrdn in 2014 as part of the SWIP heritage. Prior to joining SWIP in 2013, Alan joined Lloyds Banking Group in 2007 on the graduate scheme. He spent his first three years working in Internal Audit where he focused mainly on the UK mid-market lending and international areas of the bank.
Alan holds a BSc (Hons) in Genetics from the University of Edinburgh and is a qualified chartered accountant.
Hamish Mair, Managing Director and Head of Private Equity, Columbia Threadneedle Investments
Hamish has 36 years of investment experience, over three decades of which is in private equity. He has been Head of the Private Equity team since inception, when it was part of Martin Currie Investment Management, and throughout its ownership by F&C, BMO and now Columbia Threadneedle Investments. Hamish oversees all the fund vehicles that the Private Equity team manages and, specifically, is lead manager of the London Stock Exchange listed CT Private Equity Trust PLC. Hamish was a Director of Martin Currie Investment Management between 1996 and 2005, where his responsibilities included small companies and Far Eastern equities. Hamish is a graduate of Aberdeen University and Edinburgh University and is an Investment Committee member.
Steven Tredget, Partner, Oakley Capital
Steven joined Oakley in 2017 and has more than 18 years of investment banking experience. Steven’s focus is fund raising, communications and investor relations for Oakley and its portfolio companies.
Prior to joining Oakley, Steven was a founding partner of investment bank Liberum Capital. Over nine years he raised equity capital for hundreds of companies and advised on public market listings. He began his career in 1997 at Collins Stewart, where he held equity research and sales roles.
Steven holds a BSc (Hons) in Banking and Finance from Loughborough University.
