Pebble Group — Strong H122 lifts full-year prospects

The Pebble Group’s H122 update confirms that it is carving out a strong position in the very large and fragmented global promotional products industry, estimated to be worth €50bn. Facilisgroup (Pebble’s SaaS business supporting promotional products for SMEs in North America) is building its recurring revenue base and benefiting from good underlying demand, boosted by currency translation. Brand Addition, supporting global brands with promotional products, saw significant volume uplifts from new business and existing customers in both 2020 and 2021. Management indicates that FY22 figures will exceed current guidance and we expect consensus forecasts to rise, to an extent tempered by some caution over the economic backdrop.

Both sides of the business seeing good growth

Facilisgroup (11% of group FY1 revenue, 43% of adjusted EBITDA) has grown its gross merchandise value by 38% in H122 and put 54% more spend through its preferred suppliers. Commercio, its new product enabling distributors to deploy and operate their own online stores, was launched in June 2022 and is now being rolled out. Success here is key to hitting the longer-term ambition of $50m in recurring revenues. At Brand Addition (FY21: 89% of group revenue, 57% of adjusted EBITDA), trading is reported as ‘well ahead’ of H121, when the operation delivered revenues of £41.1m (at a gross margin of 28.2%) and adjusted EBITDA of £2.5m. This reflects new business won over the last couple of years and increased sales to existing clients.

Positive momentum into H222

Current consensus is for a 15% improvement in full year revenues to translate into a modest uplift in EPS, reflecting the higher levels of amortisation associated with the software and platform development. The full year picture will undoubtedly be clearer at the time of the publication of the interims (6 September) and we would expect to see some uplift to forecasts following this trading update. Pebble has the financial and operational resource to grow its market position organically and via targeted M&A, with an end-FY21 cash position of £12.1m and no bank debt.

Valuation: Trading below peers

Other quoted B2B marketing services businesses are trading on a current year EV/EBITDA average of 12.7x, 9.4x for FY23e and on P/Es falling from 21.1x in FY22e to 13.9x in FY23e. Based on the current market consensus forecasts, Pebble’s shares are trading on a 20% FY22 P/E discount to peers, but that discount will likely increase assuming that consensus is revised upwards.

Oryzon Genomics — CRADA win to provide a halo effect

Oryzon has been awarded a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) with the US National Cancer Institute (NCI) to develop its lead oncology asset, iadademstat. We believe the selection in this highly competitive process provides financial and reputational benefits. This follows positive readouts from the ongoing ALICE study in first-line acute myeloid leukaemia (AML). Oryzon plans to initiate the key follow-on FRIDA study in second line AML in H222. Management also plans to investigate iadademstat in first-line small cell lung cancer (SCLC).
